I was honored to co-host a baby shower for one of my dearest friends, but we knew from the beginning that she wouldn’t want the usual girly and pink affair. It was the mama’s idea to theme it with sugar and spice, as she is a fabulous cook and wanted to make red pepper jelly favors for the guests. So my friend Kellee and I took it from there, and wanted to create an invitation that really set the tone for the party. We started with a more unexpected color scheme of plum and coral, and then I came up with this little lovely that includes a small kraft paper bag filled with aromatic spices, and the whole bundle is tied with purple and white striped baker’s twine. We also used vintage stamps in coordinating colors for a final finishing touch.
We also came up with a “spicy” game to keep guests entertained. My handy carpenter boyfriend helped me with creating a cedar wood holder, in which I stood numbered test tubes each containing a different spice. The guests all took their best guesses as to what the spices were, and then we awarded the top winners with homemade sugar scrub to round out the theme. It was such a lovely day!
